Silver Calls On MTA To Release Five-Year
Capital Plan As Soon As Possible

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver today called on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to release its Five-Year Capital Plan as soon as possible, so that the Legislature can review the plan as part of its consideration of the proposed traffic congestion mitigation measures for New York City.

"It is essential to the Legislature that we receive the MTA's Capital Plan as well as the Five-Year Roads and Bridges Plan as soon as possible, so that we may give proper consideration to any congestion mitigation measure and appropriately address the needs identified in those capital plans," Silver wrote in a letter to MTA Executive Director Elliot Sander.

"We expect to see a detailed plan which will demonstrate how the MTA anticipates handling the increased ridership and how the Authority expects to address the consequences of any potential congestion mitigation that may be adopted," Silver added.

Both the MTA's Capital Plan and the State Department of Transportation's Five-Year Capital Plan are required by law to be submitted to the legislature no later than next month.
