Statement From Speaker Sheldon Silver Regarding
Port Authority Plan For Rebuilding
World Trade Center Site

Today's announcement by the Port Authority outlining a plan for rebuilding of the World Trade Center is a positive step.

The next step must be a full discussion in which the public and members of the downtown community are able to scrutinize the plan to make sure that these time lines, budgets and other commitments can be met, and to develop a better understanding of the day-to-day impacts that the plan will have on those who live, work and visit in Lower Manhattan. Furthermore, there must be an opportunity for input on the components of the plan by the public and members of the community.

To that end, I will convene a public hearing on this matter on November 13 in New York City. At that time, I expect the Port Authority and other key entities to engage in this discussion and provide further details on the plan.
