I am shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of State Court of Appeals Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam. Justice Abdus-Salaam was a dedicated public servant who served New York with honor and distinction as the first African-American woman to sit on the Court of Appeals. She was highly respected and an inspiration to so many throughout her career. Her passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. This is a sad day for all New Yorkers.
