Assemblymember Matthew Titone: October 3rd Deadline to File Claim with 9/11 Compensation Fund

(Staten Island, N.Y.) – Assemblyman Matthew Titone (D-North Shore), Chair of the Assembly’s Office of State-Federal Relations, wants to remind Staten Island that there are now less than 75 days to file a claim with the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). October 3rd is the deadline for most of the injured responders and survivors of 9/11.

“The VCF was reopened when Congress and President Obama signed the James Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act of 2010,” said Titone. “Under the law, 9/11 responders and survivors who became ill, or the loved ones of those who have passed away due to 9/11 injuries, may apply for compensation for all loses, financial or otherwise, that are a direct result of their physical injuries.”

Assemblyman Titone added “though you may be enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Program, or have filed with the NYS Worker’s Compensation Board or your own Pension Board, the VCF requires a separate registration.”

If you are a 9/11 survivor or first responder and discovered that as of October 3rd, 2011 that you have an injury or became sick as a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks, you MUST register for financial compensation by October 3rd, 2013. If you have lost a loved one, compensation may also be available, to the family members of first responders and survivors.
