Public Comment Sign-on Letter Opposing Title IX Proposed Rule Changes
January 28, 2019
The United States Department of Education under Secretary Betsy DeVos has proposed rule changes to Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 which has historically provided student protections against discrimination on the basis of sex.
The proposed changes published in the Federal Register on November 29, 2018 would establish new guidance in cases of rape and sexual assault on college campuses that would severely impact an individuals safety and survivors willingness to come forward with complaints.
In response to the proposed rule changes, Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, Chair of the Office of State-Federal Relations, was joined by members of the State Legislature in issuing a public comment.
