TITLE OF BILL:
An act amending chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 amending the education
law relating to certain tuition waivers for police officer students of
the city university of New York, in relation to the effectiveness there-
of
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To purpose of this bill is to extend. the law that provides certain
police officers enrolled at CUNY with a tuition waiver for one course.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of the bill amends chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 to extend
the law for an additional two years through July 1, 2024.
Section two of the bill provides for an immediate effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
The original bill (chapter 548 of 2004) was based on a tuition waiver
program sponsored by John Jay College of Criminal Justice during thE
late 1970s through the 1980s. This bill provides a strong incentive for
police officers to pursue higher education by authorizing a tuition
wavier for one course for police officer students at CUNY.

EFFECTIVE DATE:

AN ACT amending chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 amending the education
law relating to certain tuition waivers for police officer students of
the city university of New York, in relation to the effectiveness
thereof
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 548 of the laws of 2004 amending the
2 education law relating to certain tuition waivers for police officer
3 students of the city university of New York, as amended by chapter 280
4 of the laws of 2022, is amended to read as follows:
5 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be
6 deemed repealed July 1, [2024] 2026.
7 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
