Goodell Welcomes Public to Third Annual Sportsmen and Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day
Event spotlighted importance of New York sportsmen and Second Amendment enthusiasts

Assemblyman Andy Goodell (R,C–Chautauqua) recently participated in the 2012 Assembly Minority Conference’s Sportsmen and Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day. The event is held to highlight strong support for the rich history of sportsmen in New York as well as the important role they play in New York’s economy.
“Events like this provide sportsmen in Chautauqua County with the opportunity to make their voices heard to all of state government,” said Goodell. “Hunting, fishing and other sporting ventures boost economic development by creating jobs and through tourism activities. Sportsmen’s Day also affords me and my colleagues a chance to hear the concerns of those most closely involved in this proud tradition, and the perspective gained by these discussions will directly influence policymaking decisions moving forward.”
“Chautauqua County is blessed to be home to some of New York’s most breathtaking scenery. From the North Harmony State Forest, to the Eastside Overland Trail in Boutwell Hill State Forest, Chautauqua County is filled with spectacular places to enjoy the great outdoors. In fact, state records were set for both lake trout and small mouth bass right here in Chautauqua County,” said Goodell.
The third annual “Sportsmen’s Day” was hosted by the Assembly Minority’s Sportsmen Caucus in the Legislative Office Building in Albany. The event featured keynote speaker Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president & CEO of the National Rifle Association (NRA), and event co-sponsor Tom King, president of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA). Also in attendance for the free public event were leading manufacturers from across the industry and thousands of outdoor enthusiasts from across the state.
