Norris Announces Annual Memorial Day Poster Contest
High School Art Contest Honors the Service of America’s Military & True Cost of Our Freedom
Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C-Lockport) announced his Annual Memorial Day Poster Contest is now accepting submissions from students in grades nine through twelve. Artists can drop off their posters on the theme “Freedom Isn’t Free,” at the assemblyman’s office in Clarence during regular business hours until Friday, May 12.
“Memorial Day is a day to remember the true cost of the freedom that we, as Americans, are privileged to enjoy every day. Seeing this interpreted through the artistic eyes of our high schoolers is a wonderful experience for both our students and our community, giving us all a deeper appreciation of how our military’s ultimate sacrifice has afforded teenagers the opportunity to express themselves so freely,” said Norris. “I greatly appreciate everyone who has participated in this art contest in the past and encourage every high school student to submit their design this year. We thank everyone who has served our great nation.”
Students may enter individually or through their schools. The theme is “Freedom Isn’t Free” and students may interpret that any way they choose, remembering that the contest’s intention is to honor the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. Posters should be on paper either 8 inches by 14 inches in size or 11 inches by 17 inches in size. All submissions received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 12 will be included in the contest. Submissions should be dropped off at the assemblyman’s office located at 8180 Main St. in Clarence during regular business hours. Winners will be announced around Memorial Day.
