TITLE OF BILL:
An act establishing the New York state rural ambulance services task
force; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration
thereof
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill creates a task force for New York State rural ambulance
services to examine evaluate and make recommendations.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Subdivision 1: The department of health is hereby authorized to estab-
lish the New York state rural ambulance services task force within the
bureau of emergency medical services to examine, evaluate and make
recommendations concerning New York state ambulance services in rural
areas
Subdivision 2: (a) Such task force shall be compromised of: two members
appointed by the governor, two members appointed by temporary president
of the senate, two members appointed by the speaker of the assembly, one
member appointed by the minority leader of the senate, one member
appointed by the minority leader of the assembly, two members appointed
by the office of fire prevention and control, and two members of the
bureau of emergency medical services. (b) One of the appointments by the
governor shall serve as chairperson of the task force. (c) The members
of the task force shall receive no compensation for their services, but
shall be allowed their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the
performance of their services. (d) The task force will be provided with
information necessary to carry out its functions and shall keep such
information confidential.
Subdivision 3: Such task force shall conduct a study on the unique chal-
lenges faced by New York state ambulance services in rural areas.
Subdivision 4: Within twelve months of the effective date of this act,
the department of health shall submit a report detailing the findings of
the study to the governor, the temporary president of the senate, and
the speaker of the assembly.

information required to be in the report.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation will create a task force to examine, evaluate, and make
recommendations for the functionality and betterment of operations of
ambulance services in rural areas of New York State. The ultimate goal
of this task force is to present a comprehensive, unified view of the
New York states ambulance services.
