Assemblyman Zebrowski Statement on Rockland Polio Case

“The announcement of a polio case in Rockland County is deeply concerning, and I have been in contact with the New York State Department of Health. In my conversation, I requested that all avenues of possible transmission be investigated so that any exposures/infections can be immediately identified and isolated to prevent broader transmission. Any possible exposures in children should immediately spur a check of school vaccination compliance and reporting. It is critical that we remain vigilant and that medical practitioners be on alert for any additional cases. A strong vaccination campaign in the 1950s and 60s made it possible to eradicate this disabling and deadly disease, and we must ensure it remains that way. It was shocking to receive this call today, and this requires swift and decisive action to prevent any further outbreaks.”
