Assemblywoman Sandy Galef to Host Climate Change Virtual Town Meeting

Next Wednesday, October 27, 2021, Assemblywoman Galef will host a meeting over Zoom on the topic of Our Climate Emergency from 7pm to 9pm. The meeting will feature distinguished panelists from Environmental Advocates of New York (EANY), New York Independent Systems Operator (NYISO), and Croton100.

Conor Bambrick, the Director of Climate Policy with EANY, will detail the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), passed by the legislature in 2019. He will also describe upcoming legislation that the legislature must pass to keep our state on track to meet the short- and long-term goals of the CLCPA.

Kevin Lanahan, the Vice President of Government Communications with NYISO, will discuss NYISO’s work planning the power grid of the future and how it aligns with CLCPA goals, in terms of both adherence to clean energy and reliability standards. He will share what that grid will look like and how New York State will get there.

Eric Lewandowski, the Youth Action Coordinator with Croton100, will explain the toll the climate crisis takes on youth. He will address how adults can support the youth in their lives, using the work of Croton100 as an example.

Assemblywoman Galef said, “Lately, we have come to recognize increasingly severe weather events, like the heatwaves and storms we experienced this summer, as the products of a changing climate. As a state, we know we must act now to meet our ambitious clean energy goals, and prepare for what is to come in the future. I am looking forward to this discussion where we will cover where we stand with this issue and where we must go moving forward.”
