Buying a New Home

Whether single or married, more women are buying homes these days. The State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA) offers mortgage programs to assist with the purchase of a home. SONYMA mortgages feature below-market interest rates, low down payment requirements, no prepayment penalties, and may offer closing cost assistance – all to make your home purchase more affordable.

All SONYMA Mortgage Programs require borrowers to meet certain household income and purchase price limits.

Legislative Spotlight:
Highlights of measures I helped to pass:
  • Increased funding for Child Health Plus, which will allow for an increase in income guidelines;
  • Increased funding for the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) Program, which will improve prescription drug costs for seniors;
  • Increased funding for hospitals to recruit and retain employees;
  • Increased funding for the Higher Education Opportunity Program;
  • Delivered capital projects to SUNY Oswego for $69.5 million and Onondaga Community College for $34.2 million;
  • Authorized school districts to provide special education programs and services to students who are home-schooled.

These are just some of the initiatives I supported. If you would like a complete copy of the Assembly Minority’s Legislative Priorities, please contact me at my district office.

2008 Summer Reading Challenge: Catch the Reading Bug
Every year the Assembly sponsors the Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages kids to read at least 15 minutes each day during the months of July and August. Every day they complete this task, the child marks it on the calendar. At the end of August, students are encouraged to send their brochures back to my district office to obtain a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate. Over 5,000 brochures have already been distributed throughout the 124th Assembly District this year. If you would like a brochure, please contact me in my district office.
