Gordon Named Chair of Legislative Commission on State-Local Relations

Assemblyman Tim Gordon (I,D,WF) has been appointed chair of the Legislative Commission on State-Local Relations, the commission tasked with responsibilities that include examining, evaluating and making recommendations concerning the state’s system of aid to localities and the division of state and local responsibilities.

“An effective government hinges on the strong relationship between the state and its counties, towns, villages, school districts and other units of government,” Gordon said. “My experience serving as a town Councilman and involvement in my fire district, I feel, will bring a good local perspective to this position,” Gordon said.

In the past the Commission has produced reports and analysis on local government structure, tax limits, state-local revenue sharing, fire and police services, and IDAs. In addition, the Commission publishes the Catalog of State and Federal Programs Aiding New York’s Local Governments, providing a one-stop resource for local village, town, city, and county officials to explore funding and technical assistance opportunities that may allow them to access funding, lower tax rates, and provide increased services to their constituents.

“As chairman, I will work with my colleagues to provide recommendations for a more balanced and transparent system of state assistance to local governments in an effort to pave the way for real tax relief for New York’s families and businesses.” Gordon concluded.
