Teens on the Israeli team come from the Kibbutzim most severely affected by the Oct 7th attack. One of the coaches was murdered and 3 players were kidnapped and eventually released. Commodore Christopher Gioia joins Assemblymember Lavine at Hempstead Harbour Club’s 133rd opening day commissioning ceremony in Glen Cove. At the event, there were moving tributes to Robert Canavan, a longtime member and most recent commodore, who recently passed away. The event kicks-off the club’s 2024 season.

Gun violence activist Linda Beigel Schulman joins Assemblymember Lavine at the "Buckets 4 Beigel" basketball tournament in Glen Cove. Money raised at the event goes to the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund whose mission is to send at-risk, undeserved children touched by gun violence to summer sleep-away camp. Linda’s son Scott was murdered as he saved lives during the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.

The hardworking team at North Shore Soup Kitchen in Glen Cove’s historic First Baptist Church welcomes Assemblymember Lavine. At the gathering, Lavine thanked NSSK Board Member Bob Sherman (third from left) for the tour and showing him how a $25,000 grant he helped secure is providing top-quality meals for people struggling in these difficult economic times.

Glen Cove’s Tiegerman Middle School is ADA compliant thanks to a grant to upgrade its facilities secured by Assemblymember Lavine. The school for children with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders now has an elevator, renovated bathrooms, and a ramp at the front entrance. To mark the completion of the project, Lavine visited the school and was warmly welcomed by students, teachers, and administrators.

Assemblymember Lavine joins Governor Kathy Hochul on the campus of Farmingdale State College to celebrate the $237 billion enacted budget that makes record investments in the people of New York without raising income taxes. Lavine said he’s most pleased with the investments made in public education and is thankful for the provisions concerning judicial security.

Assemblymember Lavine participates in a solemn Yom HaShoah event at the Holocaust Museum and Tolerance Center in Glen Cove. The event featured guest speaker Gail Kastenholz (to Lavine’s right), a Holocaust education advocate whose parents were Holocaust survivors.

A flag representing the neurodivergent community flies over the City of Glen Cove. Thanks to the efforts of Assemblymember Lavine, the flag, designed by Jericho constituent Josh Mirsky, was raised at a special ceremony attended by Lavine and other dignitaries including the city’s mayor and representatives of the City Council.The event, which was spearheaded by Lavine’s office, comes during National Autism Awareness Month with the goal of creating more awareness about autism and a greater understanding and acceptance of those in the neurodivergent community.

Assemblymember Lavine visits Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County’s incredible facility housed in a beautiful Gold Coast Mansion in Bayville. One of the highlights of being in service in the Assembly is to introduce visiting West Point cadets. And it was indeed an honor for Assemblymember Lavine to introduce CDT Jacob Crossman of Jericho in the Assembly Chamber as part of the 72nd Annual West Point Day at the New York State Capitol.

Assemblymember Lavine is interviewed by an Albany TV station covering his bill to repeal an archaic law criminalizing adultery in New York State. The bill, which passed overwhelmingly in the Asssembly, is literally getting global attention. Among the countries carrying it: Canada, Chile, France, India, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Well-known publications that have picked it up include: Albany Times Union, Associated Press, London Daily Mail, London Telegraph, New York Daily News, New York Post, Politico, San Francisco Chronicle, Sky News London, Washington Examiner, and the Washington Post. Lavine is looking forward to it passing in the Senate and eventually being signed into law.

As part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, Assemblymember Lavine is honored to introduce good friend Josh Mirsky of Jericho on the floor of the Assembly Chamber. As a member of the Autism Spectrum Disorders Advisory Board, Josh is an advocate for greater understanding and acceptance of those in the neurodivergent community. Josh continues to work on getting a bill passed in the legislature establishing a flag he designed as the official state flag for raising awareness of neurodiversity.

The Village of Westbury is so fortunate to have a place like Westbury Arts where arts and culture are celebrated. Assemblymember Lavine joins (l-r) President and Founding Member Julie Lyon and Executive Director Jennifer Yatco for a tour of their wonderful facility. In addition to enjoying the ongoing exhibition ‘Fifty-Five Years of Black Creativity,’ Lavine was able to get a first-hand look at the newly renovated space used for a variety of shows and special event programs that he was able to secure funding for.
