Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Kay Announce $1 Million for the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless on the Speaker's Annual Statewide Tour
Speaker Carl Heastie joined Assemblymember Paula Elaine Kay at the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless today, announcing $1 million to support the federation’s capital project goals as they look to improve their ability to provide food and shelter for Sullivan County families.
“For decades, community members have been able to rely on support from the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless in in their times of need,” said Speaker Heastie. “I’m honored to announce this funding today that will support the federation’s mission to continue providing vital resources to local families as they get back on their feet.”
“So many of our neighbors rely on the vital support the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless provides,” said Assemblymember Kay. “This funding will be a vital resource to them, allowing them to grow and ensure that they have the opportunity to support even more families across our communities.”
Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Kay joined members of the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless Board to visit the federation today and hear more about their capital project plans including:
- $500,000 for structural/architectural improvements including ensuring ADA compliance and providing adequate drainage for the building;
- $250,000 for updating the electrical, ensuring energy code is met;
- $125,000 for updating the plumbing; and
- $94,000 for Hazardous Materials Abatement.
With the $1 million announced today, the Sullivan County Federation for the Homeless will have the funding they need to complete all the above projects to ensure they can continue to support the needs of Sullivan County’s families. This funding is on top of a $100,000 grant from Assemblymember Kay, which allowed the federation to invest in new furnaces, handicap access and refurbishing the main entrance.
