Speaker Heastie Continues Annual Statewide Tour in Rockland County with Assemblymember Wieder, Announcing Over a Million Dollars in Community Support

Speaker Carl Heastie continued his annual statewide tour today with Assemblymember Aron Wieder, visiting the Community Outreach Center and the Martin Luther King Center, and meeting with rabbis of Kaiser Village and New Square.

“I want to thank Assemblymember Wieder for inviting me today to see the incredible community in Rockland County,” said Speaker Heastie. “The Community Outreach Center and the Martin Luther King Center continue to provide critical services to the community, from supporting applications to social services to expanding access for after-school care and providing our seniors with social programs and meal services. These services are vital to the fabric of communities across the state and I was honored to meet with these groups today.”

“My community excels in taking care of one another and I was honored to show Speaker Heastie around our neighborhoods and introduce him to the individuals working to make our community better,” said Assemblymember Wieder. “By touring the Community Outreach Center, the Martin Luther King Center and meeting with rabbis from Kaiser Village and New Square, Speaker Heastie was able to see Rockland County’s focus on ensuring all members of our community have the resources available to grow and thrive.”

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Wieder joined Rabbi Hersh Horowitz, executive director of the Community Outreach Center to tour the center. The center is a hub for the community, supporting families looking to secure social services and employment support while providing seniors access to social, recreational and life support services.

Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Wieder then visited the Martin Luther King Center with Director Nathan Mungin. For decades, the center has provided support for families in the Rockland County community including after-school and summer care for children, youth employment opportunities, food pantry access and senior nutritional support. Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Wieder announced $1,050,000 million in capital funding for a field at the center, air-conditioning units and to repair the roof. They also announced $250,000 in annual operating funds to ensure the center can continue to support families across the county.

During the visit, Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Wieder also joined with Kaiser Village Mayor Allie Pinkasovits to visit with the rabbi of Kaiser Village and New Square Mayor Izzy Spitzer to meet with the rabbi of New Square.
