Speaker Heastie Statement on Swearing in of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani

I would like to extend my congratulations to Zohran Mamdani as he begins his service as mayor of New York City. Zohran is a dedicated advocate and trailblazer who will continue to break barriers and deliver change for New Yorkers. 

The Assembly has long shared Zohran’s vision and focus on making our city and state more affordable for all families, and on addressing some of the toughest challenges facing New York City, including transportation, food security and housing. As speaker, I am proud to have worked with Zohran in Albany to make our state more affordable.
