TITLE OF BILL:
An act to authorize Richard Lee Johnson to take the competitive civil
service examination for the position of police officer and be placed on
the eligible list for employment as a full-time police officer for the
village of Canastota police department
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would grant a waiver to Richard Lee Johnson to take the
competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer
in the Village of Canastota.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 allows for Richard Lee Johnson to take the competitive civil
service examination for the position of police officer in the Village of
Canastota.
Section 2 stipulates that Richard Lee Johnson shall be subject to the
merit and fitness provisions of the civil service law.
Section 3 marks the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Richard Lee Johnson, a part-time police officer, has been granted by the
Mayor and Police Chief of the Village of Canastota, the opportunity to
seek an age-based waiver to take the competitive examination to become a
full-time officer with the Village's Police Department. This legislation
would provide Officer Johnson with the opportunity to test for the full-
time position, as approved by the Mayor and Chief of Police.

AN ACT to authorize Richard Lee Johnson to take the competitive civil
service examination for the position of police officer and be placed
on the eligible list for employment as a full-time police officer for
the village of Canastota police department
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 58 of the civil
2 service law, including the age requirements under paragraph (a) of
3 subdivision 1 of such section, or any other provision of law to the
4 contrary, Richard Lee Johnson, employed by the village of Canastota, in
5 the county of Madison, as a part-time police officer, shall be eligible
6 to take the competitive civil service examination for the position of
7 police officer and shall, contingent upon his score on such examination,
8 be eligible to be placed on the eligible list for appointment as a full-
9 time police officer with the village of Canastota police department.
10 § 2. Richard Lee Johnson shall otherwise be subject to the merit and
11 fitness provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time
12 police officers.
13 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
