Assemblyman Stirpe Encourages Children of All Ages to Continue Reading with Annual Summer Reading Challenge

Assemblyman Stirpe (D- Cicero) wants to remind students and parents that the Assembly’s annual Summer Reading Challenge is here again. Every year, the Assembly partners with local schools and libraries to encourage children to continue reading during the summer after the school year ends. Upon completion of the Summer Reading Challenge, children will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate. “Summer is a great time to read. Whether you’re at home, enjoying the outdoors, or traveling to visit friends or family, reading opens up new worlds and gives you the opportunity to learn many new things,” Stirpe said. “This is also a great opportunity for family and friends to connect and spend quality time together.” To participate in the program, children must read by themselves or with a partner for a minimum of 15 minutes every day, for at least 40 days throughout the months of July and August. The days can be marked off on a provided calendar and submitted to Assemblyman Stirpe. Those who participate will be awarded a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate. “We live in a world where there is so much technology around us that it is easy to forget about the importance of reading,” Assemblyman Stirpe said. “Fostering a love of reading in our children is a gift that will last for many years to come.” Many local schools handed out the Assembly Summer Reading Challenge. If your child has lost their pamphlet or would like an additional one, it is available at local libraries. Here is a list of participating libraries and their summer hours. Fayetteville Free Library
