Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara presented a $10,000 check in funding he secured from his office to support the Amsterdam Waterfront Foundation during the City of Amsterdam’s Bicentennial Celebration at Riverlink Park on Saturday evening. The funding will assist the Foundation in continuing its mission of promoting arts, culture, and community events along the Mohawk River waterfront. Assemblyman Santabarbara presented the check to members of the Foundation’s Board during the celebration.

A lifelong Amsterdam resident and the eldest of nine, Shirley May Nethaway Emanuele built a career at New York Telephone (later Verizon), where she worked for 30 years before lending her creative talents to Doral’s Touch of Class Florist. Whether helping neighbors stay in touch or adding beauty to their most meaningful moments, Shirley has always found ways to give back.
On June 30th, surrounded by family and friends at Lorenzo’s Southside, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara presented Shirley with a New York State Assembly Proclamation in honor of her 90th birthday and lifetime of contributions to the community.
