Assemblyman Santabarbara Statement on Nauman Hussain’s Sentencing in Schoharie Limo Case

“Our community is still devastated by the October 2018 limousine crash that took the lives of 17 passengers, the vehicle’s driver and two bystanders in Schoharie. This crash, the United States’ deadliest transportation disaster in over a decade, was not only tragic but entirely avoidable. If limousine company operator Nauman Hussain had not ignored the safety recommendations placed on a defective and dangerous vehicle, it would have never been on the road. Today, Hussain was convicted of 20 counts of manslaughter and sentenced to 5-15 years.

As the trial comes to a close, my heart goes out to the families that lost loved ones and have had to go through the emotional pain of the court proceedings. It is my hope that all levels of government continue working together to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again.”
