Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced that a bill he cosponsored, the 9/11 Notice Act (A75B), has been signed into law. This legislation helps ensure affected individuals present in the exposure zones of Lower Manhattan and northern Brooklyn between September 2001 and the end of May 2002 are fully informed about their rights to register for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund and the World Trade Center Health Program.

“While more than 80% of first responders have enrolled in federal health and compensation programs, unfortunately, only a fraction of exposed individuals with qualifying medical conditions have accessed essential support available to them,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.

In addition, under the 9/11 Notice Act, the State's Economic Development agency and Department of Labor will be also working with businesses and institutions that recalled individuals to work in the aftermath of the attack to inform them about eligibility for the Victim Compensation Fund and World Trade Center Health Fund

Santabarbara to host annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

In conjunction, Assemblyman Santabarbara invites the community to his annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, scheduled for Monday, September 11th, 2023, at 6:00 PM at the Engine Hill Community Center in Schenectady. This ceremony will provide a moment of reflection and guest speakers, honoring the lives affected by the events of 9/11 and emphasizing the resilience and unity of the nation. All are invited to attend and participate in this meaningful event. The keynote speaker will be Jesus Santiago, new Director of the Schenectady County Veterans Service Agency.Mr. Santiago is a veteran of both the United States Airforce and the United State Army, serving in the Military Police in Washington DC at the time of the attack.
