"I'm pleased that Assembly Bill A1077, which I cosponsored, has been signed into law. This legislation builds upon the existing 'move over' law, which has proven effective in protecting law enforcement, emergency vehicles, and others displaying blue or green lights stopped on the side of the road.

Regrettably, each year we witness tragic incidents where motorists attending to emergencies on the road are killed or seriously injured. The expanded 'move over' law will now require motorists on these roadways to exercise due care and make an effort to avoid colliding with any parked, stopped, or standing vehicle. This includes safely moving over when possible.

The potential dangers to those stopped on parkways and interstate-type roads are significant if other motorists fail to proceed with caution by changing lanes. This legislation aims to create safer roadways for everyone, especially those experiencing emergencies while traveling. Safety should always be our top priority on the roads, and this law is a crucial step in that direction."
