Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara Announces Signing of Purple Heart State Legislation into Law

New law designates New York as a Purple Heart State, honoring service members wounded or killed in action

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara today announced that legislation he co-sponsored (A029) designating New York State as a Purple Heart State has been signed into law. This new law officially recognizes and honors the courage and sacrifice of service members who have been wounded or killed in action.

“As someone who served in the U.S. Army Reserve, I know how meaningful this designation is for those who have worn the uniform,” said Assemblyman Santabarbara. “With this legislation now signed into law, New York is showing its enduring gratitude for the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country.”

Santabarbara has been a longtime advocate for veterans, leading initiatives such as the Purple Heart Parking Program, which began in his district and has since expanded statewide. That effort, he noted, shares the same goal as the new law – to ensure that the service and sacrifice of Purple Heart recipients are never forgotten.

“I’m proud to have co-sponsored this important legislation and to see New York take this step to honor our military heroes,” Santabarbara added. “This designation stands as a permanent reminder of their bravery and our state’s commitment to those who have given so much for our freedom.”

The law takes effect ahead of Veterans Day, reinforcing New York’s commitment to recognizing the sacrifices of those who have served. Assemblyman Santabarbara continues to work closely with local veterans’ organizations and advocates to ensure veterans and their families receive the support and recognition they deserve.
