Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam) is encouraging families to be proactive about preparing for weather-related emergencies in the wake of recent severe storms and flooding that have affected the Capital Region and Mohawk Valley area.
We cant control the weather or its effects, but there are steps families can take to lessen the hardships they face in the event of a disaster, said Assemblyman Santabarbara. Preparation and planning can go a long way toward ensuring the safety and comfort of families during times of emergency.
On his weekly Assembly television show, Assemblyman Santabarbara recently hosted Julie L. Parlato, a representative from the Northeastern NY Red Cross, to discuss ways that families can be prepared. They emphasized the importance of assembling Go Kits containing emergency provisions, including first-aid supplies, flashlights, matches and other essential items. Families should store these kits in a safe place and have them on hand in case of emergencies.
For more information regarding Go Kits, the interview can be viewed online at tinyurl.com/gokit. Resources, including a list of supplies for Go Kits and smartphone apps that provide important emergency information, can also be accessed on the Red Cross website at redcross.org.
You cant be overprepared in the event of a disaster, said Assemblyman Santabarbara. Go Kits are a good way to ensure that your family has all the necessary supplies when faced with an unforeseen emergency.
Additionally, brochures containing disaster preparedness tips, important phone numbers, websites and other resources are available in Assemblyman Santabarbaras office. For more information, or to request a brochure, please contact Assemblyman Santabarbaras district office at 518-382-2941.
