Assemblyman Santabarbara Reminds NYers of Additional $50 Million Available in HEAP Assistance

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam) is reminding Capital Region and Montgomery County residents that the federal government has released an additional $50.6 million to continue operating New York’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) into February. HEAP funding provides aid to lower-income New Yorkers so they can afford to heat their homes during the winter months. “The snow and bitter cold we have seen this winter have made it difficult for some New Yorkers to afford the cost of heating their homes,” Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara said. “This additional funding for the HEAP program will help people meet their needs and ensure that families are safe and warm until spring and summer arrive.” HEAP funding is limited and is administered on a first-come, first-served basis. Eligibility and benefits depend on income, household size, heating source and the presence of a household member who is under the age of 6, over the age of 60 or permanently disabled. To check eligibility, or to apply, you can visit mybenefits.ny.gov. For more questions, you can call the NYS HEAP Hotline at 1-800-342-3009 or check with your local department of social services:
