Assemblyman Anil Beephan, Jr. (R,C-East Fishkill) sent a letter to the chair of the New York State Public Service Commission yesterday urging against the proposed increase of electricity rates by Central Hudson Gas & Electric on residents of Dutchess County. The proposed increase is estimated to cost 8.6% more for delivery costs and net a 5.3% overall price increase.
“At a time when families and small businesses are already struggling with the cost of living and operating, an 8.6% increase in electric delivery charges is unacceptable,” Beephan said. “I am respectfully urging the Public Service Commission to closely and carefully scrutinize Central Hudson’s request and seek alternatives that prioritize affordability.”
Central Hudson’s plan has drawn ire from the community, and Beephan is looking to ensure that customers aren’t taken advantage of during a period of economic uncertainty.
“This fight is about protecting our community and making sure New York’s clean energy future doesn’t come at the expense of economic stability,” Beephan concluded.
