Miller on Passing the CREEP Act
Today, Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,C-New Hartford) commended the unanimous passing of the CREEP Act (A.3226A), legislation designed to provide stronger legal protections for victims of stalking. The bill which Miller co-sponsored will allow individuals to seek anti-stalking orders of protection regardless of their relationship to the offender, closing a gap in current law that can leave victims without adequate legal recourse. The measure also addresses modern forms of stalking, including electronic tracking and online harassment, and establishes penalties for violating court-issued protections.
“This legislation recognizes a simple reality: No one should have to wait for a stalker’s behavior to escalate before they can seek protection. The CREEP Act gives victims the tools they need to protect themselves, strengthens public safety and ensures our laws keep pace with the threats people face in today’s world.”
