Assemblyman Brian Manktelow (R,C,I,Ref-Lyons) is outraged at the passage of the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act (A.8419). The bill, which grants farm laborers collective bargaining rights, workers’ compensation and unemployment benefits, has the potential to devastate the already struggling agriculture industry due to costs.

“Today is a sad day in New York, as not only do the farmers lose but so do the farm workers this bill is supposed to help,” said Manktelow. “With the industry already struggling, I don’t understand how New York City Majority politicians think farmers can afford to provide all that this bill will now require them to offer to workers. What this will do is drive more families out of New York and businesses to close. This brings out the drive in me, and I will do everything in my power to help my fellow farmers in our community to survive and grow as best we can. I will never give up fighting for them or our district because upstate matters!”
