Manktelow Appointed to Legislative Commission on Dairy Industry Development

Assemblyman Brian Manktelow (R,C,I-Lyons) has been appointed by Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I-Pulaski) to serve on the Legislative Commission on Dairy Development for the 2021-2022 legislative term.

“As a farmer for 30 years, and member of the Wayne County Farm Bureau, I know first-hand the struggles of owning and operating a small farm in New York,” said Manktelow. “I am grateful for this appointment by Leader Barclay because it will provide me the opportunity to examine current and economic regulations on the state and federal level. Also, I will be able to share my knowledge and the knowledge of the hundreds of local farmers here in the 130th Assembly District to Albany. Together we will work to create common-sense policies that will help sustain and strengthen our local economies.”

This legislative commission on dairy industry development is established to:

  • Review existing law and regulation of New York and other states as well as those of the federal government pertaining to the dairy industry;
  • Examine current and likely forces affecting the dairy producers;
  • Examine the level of milk dealer and retail outlet margins;
  • Examine the adequacy of availability of milk to consumers at reasonable prices;
  • Identify policies to strengthen and improve the organization and effectiveness of the dairy industry;
  • Identify equitable regional dairy policies in consultation with the federal market administrator and officials of other states as necessary; and
  • Recommend to the Legislature actions it determines necessary to stabilize and modernize the industry to ensure that the highest quality dairy product reach the consumer and to improve the competitive stance of the industry.
