Friend: Cuomo A Hypocrite Over Travel Quarantine Pass Given to Celebrities

Statement from Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats)

“The news that Cuomo’s Department of Health has given a waiver to the governor’s 14-day travel quarantine rule to the musicians and dancers who will be performing in the upcoming Video Music Awards is ridiculous. It shows just how little the governor and his cohorts care about working-class New Yorkers.

“Many of my constituents had to cancel planned family vacations and reunions with loved ones because of Cuomo’s quarantine rule. They, in turn, lost thousands of dollars in deposits and travel costs. They don’t have the benefit of being a wealthy, connected celebrity, many of whom contribute to Cuomo’s coffers. The governor, as in many instances, is picking winners and losers. This has been happening with the re-opening of our economy, and now with travel quarantines. I have been asking that, in all instances, rules be applied uniformly. If the governor deems that these performers are safe, he should do the same for the residents and visitors of New York and lift these travel restrictions.”
