Assembly Passes Barrett Sponsored Bill Promoting ‘I Love NY’ Campaign

Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-Hudson) announced that bipartisan legislation she sponsored to increase tourism in New York State passed the Assembly and Senate and will be delivered to Governor Cuomo (A.5311). The bill would require that the “I Love NY” logo and link be placed on websites, as well as in advertisements and public service announcements by certain agencies, departments and authorities.

“The ‘I Love NY’ logo is known and loved around the world,” Assemblymember Barrett said. “By incorporating this logo and web address into ads, commercials and other outreach on behalf of the state of New York, we can expand its visibility and promote our tourism industry both within the state and in neighboring states where our media markets overlap, all for little or no additional costs.”

Under this legislation, the ‘I Love NY’ logo and link would be required to be displayed on the websites and in the advertisements of the state’s Department of Agriculture and Markets, Department of Environmental Conservation, Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Council on the Arts, Thruway Authority, Canal Corporation, Olympic Regional Development Authority, Adirondack Park Agency, Battery Park City Authority, Hudson River Valley Greenway and Hudson River Park, Metropolitan Transportation Authority and tourism promotional agencies that receive state-matching funds.

“New York State is home to countless tourist attractions and an abundance of natural resources,” Assemblymember Barrett said. “This simple but effective change would highlight and promote our tourism industry, and tourism is key to strengthening our economy, creating jobs and helping to keep New York moving forward.”
