Ra Calls for Immediate Changes to State’s Public Safety Laws

Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) today attended a press conference alongside members from the Assembly and Senate Minority Conferences to discuss the need for greater judicial discretion in relation to high crime rates as a result of enacted bail reform laws. The legislators were joined by Victims’ Rights NY Founder Jennifer Harrison and Tammy Patrick, whose father, John Lee, was murdered by an individual released after being charged with assault the day before due to the state’s bail reform laws.

“It is obvious that New Yorkers are fed up with pro-criminal laws. The Siena College poll released earlier today shows that 93% of New Yorkers believe crime is a serious problem in our state. The criminal justice ‘reforms’ enacted over the last few years have made New Yorkers less safe and emboldened criminals. It is past time Albany starts prioritizing the safety of New Yorkers, not the protection of dangerous criminals who belong behind bars,” said Ra.

The results of the poll can be found here.
