Ra's Annual Picnic Honoring Veterans Will Shift to Socially Distanced Takeout Event

Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) today announced that his annual ‘Heroes for Heroes’ picnic honoring veterans will offer takeout meals this year in an effort to promote public health and comply with the latest COVID-19 guidance from the state.

“Even during these uncertain times, we know how important it is to extend our deepest gratitude to our veterans. I’m encouraging all veterans in our community to bring a guest and pick up a delicious meal to enjoy together in the comfort of your own home,” said Ra.

The event will be held on August 13 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in front of VFW Post 2718 in Franklin Square. Reservations are required and can be booked by calling Ra’s office at (516) 535-4095.

“We’re taking the public health component of this extremely seriously. If you’re feeling at all unwell, please stay home,” said Ra. He noted that all staff will be wearing masks and gloves. Attendees are asked to line their cars on Lincoln Rd. heading north. They are not to leave their vehicles. Instead, they’re asked to roll down their passenger-side window. A volunteer will carefully place the takeout into the vehicle.

“This is a small way for us to say thank you. It’s a way for us to recognize these men and women for their profound sacrifices and unwavering commitment to their country. I hope they enjoy it,” said Ra.
