New York State Assembly Asian Pacific American Task Force Chair Grace Lee, Assemblymember William Colton, and Senator John Liu Present $251,680 to United Chinese Association of Brooklyn at Annual Gala
Brooklyn, NY — On Thursday, the New York State Assembly Asian Pacific American (APA) Task Force Chair Assemblymember Grace Lee, Assemblymember William Colton, and State Senator John Liu announced $251,680 in state funding for United Chinese Association (UCA) of Brooklyn, a leading Asian American community organization, during their 23rd anniversary gala.
This award is a part of a historic $30 million investment in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) New Yorkers in the FY 2025-26 State Budget, secured for the third consecutive year by the APA Task Force.
"UCA has faithfully served Brooklyn's Chinese American community for 23 years and it is an honor to support their work," said Assemblymember Grace Lee, Chairwoman of the APA Task Force. "The $30 million I helped secure for AAPI organizations as chair of the APA Task Force goes a long way with organizations like UCA who use that funding to provide countless resources and services to Asian American families across New York."
“For over two decades, UCA has been an important presence in southwest Brooklyn, providing a myriad of services to community members, ranging from health fairs and other community events to senior programs to translation services,” said Assemblyman William Colton. “This grant will assist in strengthening the many crucial initiatives that the organization spearheads, and I am delighted to have helped facilitate it.”
"I've personally witnessed the inception and growth of UCA over the past 23 years and am grateful for the impact it has had on our community and NYC,” said NY State Senator John Liu. “From housing, SNAP, and translation services to senior and youth programming, UCA has become a lifeline for so many families and will continue thriving at the forefront of community advocacy for years to come."
The United Chinese Association of Brooklyn is a nonprofit organization providing resources, information, and services to vulnerable community members across Brooklyn. This includes programs for seniors like Bingo, Calligraphy, and Exercise classes and youth empowerment through an afterschool program and summer camp. UCA also provides services like housing and SNAP application assistance and Chinese to English translation services for paperwork. UCA serves neighborhoods in Brooklyn including Bensonhurst, Sheepshead Bay, and Dyker Heights.
"UCAOB extends our sincere thanks to Assembly Member Lee for celebrating with us and for her incredible support,” said Anseng Teng, President and CEO of United Chinese Association of Brooklyn. “The State Funding announced at our gala will provide immediate momentum for our initiatives, and we are excited to put these resources to work building a stronger, more vibrant community. We thank the NYS APA Task Force for continuing to advocate for all AAPI organizations."
