Giglio Slams Gov’s Emergency Declaration Extension

Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C,I-Riverhead) is fuming at the news that Gov. Kathy Hochul has once again extended New York’s COVID-19State of Emergency, citing a slight rise in cases throughout the state. Giglio finds the move questionable.

“New Yorkers have faced a lot in the last few years – a ruthless global pandemic, ineffective leadership from the Executive Branch at every turn, the circumvention of their Legislature, and an overall lack of leadership and transparency at all levels of government,” Giglio said. “Although the Legislature previously granted emergency powers to the Governor due to COVID-19, it was never intended to be an abdication of the role of the Legislature.”

“Replacing the Legislature with the Executive Branch is wrong. It violates the New York State Constitution. It is contrary to the spirit of our democratic republic. And it goes against the will of the people of the Great State of New York. When will the circumvention of the Legislature by the Executive Branch and state agencies stop?” Giglio concluded.
