Giglio, Long Island Officials Sound Alarms Over Release of Drug Smugglers

Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C,I-Riverhead) is blasting New York’s lax bail laws after they, in part, allowed Mexican drug cartel smugglers caught with 165 pounds of crystal meth in Manhattan to be let go. Other leading Long Island officials have joined her in raising the alarm over the constant flow of lethal drugs into New York, and they are reigniting the call for an overhaul of the state’s criminal justice system.

“Deaths from drug overdoses are at an epidemic level, yet New York has a system designed to enable criminal activity and drug abuse,” said Giglio. “We need to make an example of drug smugglers who bring lethal drugs into our communities, not set them free. And we need to ensure that New Yorkers have access to Mental Health facilities and care so they choose help and not drugs.”
