DeStefano: Legislature ‘Misses Mark’ On Gun Control

A statement from Assemblyman Joe DeStefano (R,C,I,Ref-Medford) on the passage of today’s gun control legislation

“The bills brought to the floor today were a failed attempt at a solution regarding the nation’s gun debate. Today’s legislation focused heavily on the legal gun owners in New York. It did not address the individuals carrying illegal handguns. Long Island suburbs are saturated with MS-13 gang members and the people of Suffolk County live in fear of becoming a victim to their violence. If we were really serious about keeping people safe, we would address gang violence and illegal handguns. That’s where the bills should be focused, not on ceremonial feel-good solutions that don’t solve anything.”
