Mikulin Speaks at Press Conference in Uniondale, Condemning BWK President’s Alleged Exploitation of Workers

Assemblyman John Mikulin (R,C-Bethpage) spoke at a press conference on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Uniondale to publicly call out BWK President Nigel Joseph and his alleged exploitation of his company’s employees. According to U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton, in addition to defrauding the public, Joseph falsified records, including payroll documents, and pocketed his employees’ wages, resulting in his arrest.

Mikulin also voiced his support for Assembly Bill A.756-B, which would ensure all school-related construction projects in Long Island, like BWK’s renovation project for the Uniondale Union Free School District, incorporate fair labor practices and support the workers involved. Mikulin was joined by Sen. Mario R. Mattera (R,C), Sen. Steven D. Rhoads (R,C), Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park), Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C-Riverhead), Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages (D-Elmont), other state and local leaders, building trades leaders and construction workers to stand up for workers’ rights.

“Nigel Joseph unapologetically stole from his employees,” said Mikulin. “He must be held accountable. I am proud to stand with the Uniondale community to condemn his actions and voice our support for proposals that will prevent people like him from committing similar crimes in the future. New York workers deserve our support.”
