Assemblyman Mikulin Calls For Transparency In Gov’t Spending

Today, Assemblyman John Mikulin (R,C,I,Ref-Bethpage) added his voice to the call of Assembly Minority and government reform groups demanding transparency in government spending amid indictments and convictions of top government officials for bid-rigging, bribery and pay-for play schemes related to Gov. Cuomo’s economic development programs.

“I came to Albany to represent our residents and voice their concerns,” said Mikulin. “One of the greatest concerns here in Nassau County is the continued corruption and abuse of taxpayer dollars. This must be stopped. I support legislation (A.5657-A) to provide greater oversight and accountability with regard to the spending of our tax dollars and so do many of my colleagues – on both sides of the aisle.”

The number of allegations and convictions on corruption charges continues to grow in New York state. Gov. Cuomo’s top aide Joe Percoco was found guilty of bribery charges earlier this year in relation to the Buffalo Billion, and Alain Kaloyeros will stand trial in a matter of weeks on bid-rigging charges related to SUNY Polytechnic. The common denominator seems to be that these are the pet projects of Gov. Cuomo. Whether or not he knew about these illicit activities remains unknown, but either way they happened right under the executive’s nose.
