Walsh Joins Minority Conference in Calling for Financial Aid to Fire Fighters and EMS Workers

A Statement from Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston)

Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston), along with the Minority Conference, is calling for the federal government to provide aid to firefighters and EMS workers to offset some of the costs associated with equipment purchased to help fight COVID-19.The Conference will also introduce legislation to create the New York State Volunteer Fire Protection Emergency Reimbursement Account to reimburse volunteer fire companies, districts, departments and EMS for expenses related to purchasing PPE and for lost revenues due to municipal budget cuts or restrictions on public fundraising events during the state of emergency declared by the governor.

“The firefighters and EMS workers in our communities continue to work on the front lines each day to help our families and neighbors in need. For all they do for us, we must provide relief from the economic hardships this pandemic has caused for them,” said Walsh. “I’m proud to stand with my colleagues in the Minority Conference in calling for federal aid to alleviate the economic burden our heroes are facing. They continue to put their lives on the line for us, this is the least we can do for them.”
