Assemblywoman Solages Hosts Annual Declaration of Independence Reading in Franklin Square
Franklin Square, NY – Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages hosted her annual community reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Rath Park Gazebo in Franklin Square in honor of Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary.
Held in partnership with the Franklin Square Historical Society, the Franklin Square Round Table Group, and local community leaders, the event brought together residents, veterans, students, educators, civic leaders, and elected officials for a public reading of one of the nation’s founding documents.
The program included the Pledge of Allegiance led by Scout Pack 372, a performance of the National Anthem, and a community reading of the Declaration of Independence by local leaders and residents. Participants included Hon. Philippe Solages, Dr. Jared T. Bloom, Christopher Crane, Frank Culmone, Adrienne McKenna, Officer Skuggevik, Regina Agrusa, Lisa Vider, Juan Madrid, and Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages.
“As we commemorate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we are reminded that democracy is something we build and protect together every day, not just something that we inherit,” said Assemblywoman Solages. “Today, having listened to the words that launched this great nation, let us recommit ourselves not only to celebrating freedom, but to using our freedom to create the kind of world that 250 years from now our descendants will remember us for ushering.”
Attendees were invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets, enjoy free refreshments, and gather with neighbors for an evening of reflection, patriotism, and community.
Assemblywoman Solages thanked the Franklin Square Historical Society, the Franklin Square Round Table Group, Scout Pack 372, the Franklin Square Public Library, participating readers, performers, volunteers, and local businesses for helping make the event possible.
