Assemblywoman Solages Brings Community Together for Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Run & Roll

Event with Inside Out Run Club honored survivors and connected residents with health and support resources

Valley Stream, NY — Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages, in collaboration with Inside Out Run Club’s non-profit Inside Out Impact, hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, Run & Roll on Saturday, October 10, at Arthur J. Hendrickson Park in Valley Stream. The event brought together residents, survivors, families, healthcare organizations and community collaborators to support those affected by breast cancer and raise awareness of available resources.

Participants walked, ran and rolled along a 1.5-mile route in a show of solidarity with survivors, those currently undergoing treatment and families remembering loved ones lost to the disease. The afternoon also provided opportunities for attendees to connect directly with organizations offering health information and support.

“Breast cancer is a horrible disease which wreaks devastation on individuals and families throughout our communities,” said Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages. “Today’s walk was about coming together to honor survivors and remember all those loved ones we have lost, and to support those currently in treatment fighting this battle. In Nassau County we experience an 11% higher rate of breast cancer than the rest of the state. We must ensure that every individual receives access to screening and timely care. I thank Inside Out Run Club and all of our community collaborators, as well as our volunteers for bringing our community together around that commitment.”

The program included opening remarks from Assemblywoman Solages, Legislator Carrié Solages and Dr. Nicole Sample-Harris of Inside Out Run Club. Following the walk, attendees enjoyed fitness demonstrations, music and wellness activities, while visiting informational tables to learn about available services.

Community collaborators included Harmony Health Care; Adelphi Breast Cancer Hotline;; Northwell; EmblemHealth; LiveOnNY; Meera Empowerment Inc.; APNA; Quality Movement Restoration; For Juice Sake; Brain Food Palace; PinkLockerz LLC; Luxe Spin Studio; DJ Sparkx Promo; and SDR Fitness & Dance.

Also present at the event were Legislator Carrié Solages, Legislator Cynthia Nuñez, and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin.

Held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the gathering emphasized the importance of access to screening and care, as well as continued community support for people affected by breast cancer and their families.

“The support we showed today should continue long after we leave the park,” Assemblywoman Solages added. “Whether that means helping someone get to an appointment or checking in on a we all have a role in showing up for one another.”
