Assemblywoman Nily Rozic Hosts Lunar New Year Meal Giveaway for Flushing Seniors

Partnership with Selfhelp Community Services and Resorts World donates hundreds of meals at Selfhelp Benjamin Rosenthal Senior Center

Flushing, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D–Fresh Meadows), in partnership with Selfhelp Community Services and Resorts World Gives, hosted a Lunar New Year meal giveaway, providing hundreds of meals to seniors in celebration of the holiday and in support of the local community.

“Lunar New Year is a time to celebrate family and community,” said Assemblywoman Nily Rozic. “I am grateful to partner with Selfhelp and Resorts World Gives to make sure our seniors can share in the joy of the season and enjoy a warm meal as we welcome the new year together.”

“As a long-standing organization in the World’s Borough, it is always a privilege to honor the traditions of the AAPI community,” said Stuart Kaplan, CEO of Selfhelp Community Services. “We are grateful to partner with Assemblymember Rozic and Resorts World Gives to celebrate the Lunar New Year and deliver hundreds of free meals to Queens seniors. This is an especially meaningful effort at a time when too many older adults are facing food insecurity, and are relying on trusted community partners for support.”

“Resorts World New York City is proud to partner with Assemblywoman Nily Rozic to celebrate Lunar New Year and support seniors in the Flushing community,” said Michelle Stoddart, SVP Community Development, Resorts World New York City. “The Lunar New Year season is a celebration of community and generosity, values we share deeply as a neighbor in Queens. We are grateful to Assemblywoman Rozic for bringing this tradition to life for the families and seniors of Flushing so they can share in the joy of the season.

Lunar New Year holds deep cultural significance for many families across Queens and throughout the Asian American community. Celebrations traditionally center around gathering with loved ones, sharing well wishes of health, prosperity, and good fortune in the year ahead.

Assemblywoman Nily Rozic has secured historic victories for the Asian American community: making Lunar New Year a statewide public school holiday and fighting to ensure Asian American history is taught in schools. As part of this year’s state budget, Assemblywoman Rozic is advocating for $54.35 million for the AAPI Equity Fund to support critical community services and nonprofit programming.

This meal donation marks the second allocation announced by Rozic and follows her annual holiday meal giveaway that also benefited over 500 local families.
