Assemblyman Ramos Announces Creation of Suffolk Chapter of LIHPA

Assemblyman Philip Ramos (D-Central Islip) lent his support at a press conference today announcing the formation of a Suffolk County chapter of the Long Island Hispanic Pastoral Association, recognizing the group’s important work to better Long Island’s cultural and business community.

“This alliance will strengthen the economic and social life of our community,” said Ramos. “I am proud to support these creative and energetic individuals in their quest to improve the quality of life for our families.”

Joining Ramos were LIHPA President Rev. Carlos Luis Vargas; Hope Missionary Baptist Church Reverend Roderick Pearson; Adelante of Suffolk County Executive Director Miriam Garcia; Pronto of Long Island Executive Director Ruth Negron-Gaines; and Kimberly Grant, president and chief executive officer of the International Dream Team Christian Association.

Assemblyman Ramos noted that LIHPA helps to create a business mentality in the network’s congregations, motivating members to start their own businesses and become part of the local business community. LIHPA promotes mutual cooperation and unity among local business and different church congregations striving to improve the quality of life of its members and the community as a whole.

LIHPA plans to create a board of financial consultants to advise the churches on business matters and maintain contact with social services and municipal organizations to better serve members of the congregations.

“I am confidant they will become a tremendous resource for our community,” said Ramos. “I look forward to working with LIHPA to help make our neighborhoods an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
