Assemblyman Ramos: President Trump’s Decision on Contraception Coverage a Flagrant Attack on Women’s Rights

“Today President Trump announced his administration would be rolling back the federal requirement for employers to include birth control coverage in their health insurance packages. This is yet another attack on women’s reproductive rights.

“Every day, women have to fight to be treated like their male counterparts. This decision is completely counterproductive, access to affordable contraception has been shown to decrease the number of unplanned pregnancies, improve women’s health and financial security and lower rates of maternal and infant mortality.1

“Earlier this year, I voted in favor of the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act (A.1378). This piece of legislation would require insurers to cover all FDA-approved contraceptives when they are prescribed by a health care provider. New York will continue to lead the way on women’s rights, and I will do my part in working to protect the rights of women from harmful decisions put forth by the federal government.”
