Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay Co-Hosts Veterans’ Resource Fair with Long Island Cares and Concern for Independent Living
Port Jefferson Station, NY – On Saturday, July 26th, Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay hosted a Veterans’ Resource Fair alongside Long Island Cares at Concern for Independent Living in Port Jefferson Station. The resource fair was open to the public and featured dozens of nonprofits, governmental agencies, and local VFWs, American Legions, and Women’s Auxiliary organizations, who provided resources and support to local veterans and their families. One of the event’s highlights was the presence of Long Island Cares’ Farm Truck which distributed fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, and other food available to attendees.
Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay shared, “I am grateful for the collaboration between my office, Long Island Cares, Concern for Independent Living, and all the nonprofits and organizations who participated at the veterans’ resource fair this past weekend. It was a joy to greet over 125 veterans and family members, celebrating their service with fresh food from Long Island Cares’ mobile Farm Truck, and connecting them with resources to support medical care, mental health, housing access, career building, benefits applications, and community involvement. It is an honor to give back to those who have given us so much.”
Long Island Cares Veteran Outreach Coordinator Justin Berbig stated, “Saturday was an amazing event, it is an honor to serve Long Island’s Veterans. Having 25 organizations come together to make sure our veterans are getting access to the benefits they are entitled to goes hand in hand with providing them with nutritional food from Long Island Cares. Partnering with Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay and Concern for Independent Living was an absolute pleasure.”
Concern Housing Program Supervisor Michael Sciulara shared, “It was a truly fulfilling day for Liberty Station and Concern Housing. It is our goal to serve the local community and broader veterans' community. We were grateful for the opportunity to have done so with such wonderful people from Assembly Woman Kassay, her team and Long Island Cares.”
Post Commander for VFW Post 4927 Jim McCann stated, “I was very pleased to see the number of organizations and entities that attended this Veterans Resource Fair. It is nice to see the community rally to assist Veterans on Long Island. I would also like to thank Assemblywoman Rebecca Kassay for her continued support to us.”
Post Commander for VFW Post 3054 Leon Schoemmell stated, “VFW Post 3054 is honored to be a part of such a great community event that welcomes Veterans from all ages. As a Veteran support organization, it is our mission to support all of our fellow brothers and sisters in arms.”
