Smullen: New Proposal Will Cripple New York’s Agricultural Industry

Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) joined Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C-Schoharie), Sen. George Borrello (R,C-57th SenateDistrict) and other members of the Assembly and Senate Minority conferences on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, to help speak out against a new proposal that would limit the number of cows allowed on certain New York dairy farms (A.6928/S.6530). Smullen and his colleagues were also joined by Ray Dykeman from Dykeman and Sons Dairy Farm as well as representatives from the New York State Farm Bureau and the Northeast Dairy Producers Association to shed light on new regulations being implemented by the state that could cripple New York’s agricultural industry statewide.

“The state should be supporting New York farmers, not jeopardizing their livelihoods,” said Smullen. “Our upstate farmers are the backbone of New York’s agricultural industry. Limiting the number of cows allowed on dairy farms will create an unnecessary barrier for dairy producers that will ultimately restrict consumers’ access to nutritious, farm-fresh dairy products. I strongly oppose this proposal—it is time we put our farmers first and introduce policies that support them, not restrict them.”
