Local Roads Can’t Wait: Bendett Calls for Increased Chips Funding

“Today’s rally made one thing clear: Our local governments cannot keep doing more with less. The Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program, known as CHIPS, is not a luxury. It is a lifeline for towns, villages and counties trying to maintain the roads and bridges our residents depend on every single day.

In rural communities, especially, CHIPS funding keeps school bus routes safe, supports local businesses that rely on truck deliveries and ensures first responders can get where they need to go without delay. When inflation drives up the cost of asphalt, equipment and labor, flat funding effectively becomes a cut.

Our highway superintendents are not asking for favors. They are asking for predictable, adequate support so they can plan responsibly and protect taxpayers from even higher costs down the road. I stand with our local leaders today and will continue fighting to ensure our communities receive the infrastructure funding they deserve.”
