Gray Discusses: North Star Filing, Leadership Changes and Local Events on The Gray Area
Assemblyman Scott Gray (R-Watertown) discusses a busy week in Albany, with some critical healthcare news and events around the district in this week of the Gray Area.
First, he congratulated the new Minority leader, Ed Ra, and the new Ways and Means ranking Minority member, Phil Palmesano. Calling both strong leaders that would serve the conference well in their positions.
He then addressed the urgent situation surrounding North Star Health Alliance’s decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. He explained that this filing gives them more time to execute agreements with the DOH so that essential health services in the area can continue to be provided. He also stated that his office is trying to further stabilize the issue to prevent service disruptions.
He continued about health, referring to an exchange he had with the Department of Health commissioner at a recent health budget hearing. This disagreement stemmed from repeated efforts made to contact the DOH with a variety of resolutions to address the North Star situation with lack of response.
Back at home, there will be multiple events in the district, including a Consolidated Local Street and Highway press conference on funding needs, as well as a Senior-to-Senior event, where seniors from Watertown High play board games and spend time with local senior citizens.
Lastly, a number of visitors stopped by Albany this week that included The Healthy Minds Coalition, Northern Regional Center for Independent Living, NYS Children's Alliance, Taste NY, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, the Arc of New York, 360 Chairman Peter Basica, students from Clarkson University, Vote 17 and a Jefferson County delegation of legislators and staff.
It was busy and productive in Albany before going back to the district next week. As always, if there is anything I can do, please reach out to my office. It's a privilege to serve you in Albany.
